Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has urged trainee nurses to focus on securing long-term employment rather than relying on allowances.
Speaking to the trainees, the former President recognized their financial struggles but stressed the importance of sustainable job opportunities within the healthcare sector.
“We know the problems with trainee nurses, and that’s why, when we were in government, we proposed replacing your allowances with student loans. Our goal was to create more employment opportunities for you. What matters most is securing a job after you finish school, not just the allowance,” he stated.
He also criticized the ruling government for not fulfilling its promises to pay trainee allowances, noting that some trainees have been owed for up to 30 months.
Mr. Mahama also promised that his next administration would prioritize job creation in the healthcare sector to provide stable and rewarding careers.
He committed to finishing abandoned hospital projects, including the Agenda 111 hospitals, to create additional employment opportunities.
“This election is between Ghana and the NPP,” Mahama concluded, underscoring the significance of the upcoming election.
