Y97.9 FM celebrates independence day with special "heritage radio" programming

Y97.9 FM Takoradi is proud to announce a special Independence Day celebration featuring its “Heritage Radio” programming on March 6th, 2025. For this significant national holiday, the station will transform its usual English-language urban format to showcase 100% Ghanaian music and languages.

Under the hashtag #HeritageMonthOnY, the station will dedicate the entire day to celebrating Ghana’s rich cultural heritage through authentic local sounds and linguistic traditions. Special guest presenters will host shows throughout the day, conducting all programming in Fanti.

“Our Independence Day special represents our commitment to preserving and promoting Ghanaian culture,” said Agyekum Gyimah, Programmes Manager of YFM Takoradi. “While we typically cater to an urban, English-speaking audience, this transformation allows us to honour our roots and showcase the incredible diversity of Ghanaian music to our listeners.”

The Heritage Radio special programming will run from 6 AM to midnight on March 6th, featuring:
– Exclusive interviews with legendary and contemporary Ghanaian musicians
– Special segments highlighting the history of Ghanaian music
– Community call-ins sharing Independence Day celebrations
– Live broadcasts from Takoradi Independence Day festivities

This initiative aligns with YFM’s ongoing commitment to supporting local talent and cultural preservation while engaging with the community in meaningful ways.

Listeners can tune in on 97.9 FM in Takoradi or stream online at www.yfmghana.com. Social media updates will be available throughout the day on all YFM platforms using the hashtag #HeritageMonthOnY.
