Y-rated awards unveiled: Nomination list out

Y-FM has launched its highly anticipated Y-Rated Awards at its studios in Accra to award musicians in the Ghanaian industry forming 11 highly competitive categories.

The categories are Gospel song of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year, Highlife Song of the Year, Afro Pop Song of the Year, Group of the Year, Rap Song of the Year, Best Collaboration Song of the Year, African Song of the Year, New Song of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year.

The awards scheme comes as part of activities to mark YFM’s 11th anniversary which falls in this month November. YFM, is rated as Ghana’s number one urban-youth radio station that has over the years provided quality content and entertainment for the Ghanaian populace.

The unveiling of nominees for the 11 award categories saw artistes both in the Ghanaian and African music scene grab spots for the awards.

Entries for the various categories came from staff of the Y-Triangle of Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi, and were trimmed by the awards committee.

Speaking on behalf of the managers of Y-triangle during the unveiling today, the Programmes Manager of YFM Accra, Eddy Blay said, “The awards scheme will be bigger and better than any ever organized in Ghana. This is an awards scheme which is a 100% people’s awards. Winners in the various categories will be determined solely by listeners and their fans”.

He announced that loyal listeners of YFM and fans of the nominated musicians will vote online through YFM’s website www.yfmghana.com and all digital platforms starting from the 1st of November to the 29th of November, 2019 to help crown their favorite musicians as winners.
