A Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Inspire Today, in collaboration with MTN Ghana Foundation, has supported young girls in Amasaman with sanitary pads.
More than 3,000 menstruating girls in Amasaman Cluster of schools in the Ga West Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, were provided the sanitary pads to mark Menstrual Hygiene day.
The outreach is aimed at reducing the rising cases of sex for sanitary pads among adolescent girls in Ghana.
The Amasaman Cluster of schools is the 17th cluster to receive support from the Inspire Today Foundation.
Aside from the sanitary pads, girls also received bathing soap, roll-ons, shaving sticks and educational materials to mark this year’s world menstrual hygiene day.
Founder of Inspire Today, Etornam Sey, expressed worry about a recent report by Plan International Ghana revealing that 83 per cent of adolescent girls interviewed in Wa East sleep with men in exchange for sanitary pads.
She has meanwhile expressed gratitude to World readers, step publishers, Ladie Bird of ZEN Petroleum, Arla foods, producers of Dano Milk, Wilmar Africa and Fanmilk Ghana limited for their consistent support in helping to keep the girl child in school.
