Former Hearts Of Oak defender, Stephen Offei, has revealed how his father threatened to disown him if he signed with Asante Kokoto.
According to him, though his father disliked his decision to choose football as a career, he was thrilled to hear that his son had signed with Hearts of Oak and not Asante Kotoko because he was a die-hard supporter of the Rainbow club.
Speaking in an interview on Happy FM’s Where Are They? segment, the veteran footballer said,” My entire family was excited to hear I signed with Hearts Of Oak but the truth of the matter is that I had numerous offers from other clubs at the time, like Ash Gold, Asante Kotoko, and Hearts of Oak. I then went to Kumasi to sit with my Dad and family to discuss which of the clubs I will be signing for”.
”It was during the meeting my Dad issued a stern warning about signing for Asante Kotoko. He warned should I consider signing for Kotoko, I should remove his name(Offei) from my name” Stephen revealed.
“My Dad gave me his blessings when I signed for Hearts of Oak and I flourished during my spell at the club,” he added.
