The vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has expressed disbelief at the lack of parental response to the challenges posed by the current academic calendar.

She expressed deep concern about the structure of the current academic calendar and questioned the apparent silence of parents on the issue.

Speaking during her tour of the Ashanti Region, she criticized the arrangement where students attend school for only a few weeks and get promoted or sent home, citing instances where some students spend as little as two weeks in school and go home on a break. Prof. Opoku-Agyemang argued that such irregular schedules disrupt the learning process and are inconsistent with how education was previously structured.

Drawing on her experience in the education sector, she stressed that effective learning requires consistent engagement. She compared the current situation to apprenticeship training, stating that a similar inconsistency would hinder skills acquisition.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang urged parents to speak up, questioning why they have not taken a stand against the disruptions to their children’s education. She expressed disbelief at how this system has become acceptable, urging stakeholders to reconsider the approach to avoid compromising the quality of education.
