The Economic Fighters League has pledged its commitment to seeking justice for the deceased and affected individuals involved in the clash between illegal miners and military personnel at Obuasi.
The incident, which occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2024, at the AngloGold Ashanti Mines, resulted in the death of eight individuals labeled as illegal miners following a confrontation with the military.
Speaking to Happy Kaseɛbɔ on Happy 98.9FM, the National Spokesperson for the Economic Fighters League, John Koomson, emphasized the group’s dedication to defending citizens’ rights since its inception. He highlighted their previous advocacy for justice in the cases of Ibrahim Mohammed, popularly known as “Kaaka Macho”, who was murdered in Ejura in 2021, and Ahmed Hussein-Suale, who was killed in 2019. According to him, the League will extend the same commitment to the residents of Obuasi.
Mr. Koomson stressed that the Economic Fighters League will continue to push for a thorough investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable. He noted that justice must prevail to serve as a deterrent to similar actions in the future.
