National Blood Service(NSA) has set a goal to increase the percentage of voluntary blood donations from the current 40 percent to 70 percent by the end of the year.Per the target, the Blood service is eyeing an additional 30 per cent which will be in the ranges of 335,00 units of blood per annum.Head of Blood Donor Recruitment at the National Blood Service, David Dodzi Ahiazro, said this in an exclusive interview with Kwadjo Sefah-Danquah on Happy98.9FM’s Happy Morning Show on Friday.Mr Ahiazro, said, the country requires approximately 335,000 units of blood per annum to meet their demand. The statistics of last year, showed that only 183000 units were collected with 75% of that coming from families and friends. This indicates that, the percentage of voluntary donation is significantly lower than the target of 100%.The Head of Blood Donor Recruitment, used the opportunity to call on eligible donors to step forward and contribute to this life-saving cause.
