A member of the National Democratic Congress’ legal team, Alex Segbefia has insisted that his party came out victorious in both the 2020 parliamentary and presidential elections.
According to him, the party has no doubt that it won a minimum of one hundred and forty seats in parliament as against the current one hundred and thirty-seven parliamentary seats (137).
Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show, he stated: “When you look at all the things that has happened in this election, we can say that the NDC has done extremely well. We had no doubt in our mind that we won 140 seats minimum in terms of the parliamentary. The issues that have happened in Techiman South, Sefwi-Wiawso and two of the cases we have already taken and we have won make it clear that there was a concerted effort. Also in Tarkwa, Essikado and one or two others which should have not come to pass. So we are clear in our mind that with both the presidential and the parliamentary we should have been victorious”.
Alex Segbefia shared that the NDC is very much concerned about how Ghana’s democracy is turning out. “It is almost as if power must be obtained by all cost regardless of the threat to our own democracy. Some of these actions are of concern but we know the NPP and we know what they are capable of, so we are undeterred. We will continue to fight as we have always done to ensure that the needs of the people are met and that the will of the people are not going to be usurped”, he added.
Former President John Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have petitioned the Supreme Court to annul the results of Election 2020. Mr. Mahama also wants the apex court to order for a re-run of the polls hence the need to issue a fiat restraining President Akufo-Addo from holding himself as the President-elect.
Prior to their petition however, the party resorted to continuous nationwide protests. On December 22nd, the Minority in Parliament marched to the Headquarters of the Electoral Commission (EC) to petition the EC over the 2020 parliamentary and presidential results.
