The Kumasi Kejetia Queen mothers Association has strongly opposed a planned closure of Kejetia market on December 7, 2024.
According to them, market management should reconsider their decision and consider the detrimental effects on their businesses, especially in the current economic situation.
They also argued that Friday, December 6, 2024 is a holiday.
They raised this concern after Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh requested for the closure of the market on election day after meeting the traders at the Kumasi Culture Centre.
Kumasi Mayor, Samuel Pyne also instructed management of the market to proceed with the closure.
The traders in Kumasi in their statement on December 3, 2024 indicated that there was no justification for the market closure on December 7.
“As the Market Queen Mothers, we stand against this decision and will fiercely resist any attempt to shut down the market”
We call on the market management to prioritize the welfare of traders and rescind the decision.
