The Head of Public Affairs at the West African Examination Council, Mrs Agnes Teye-Cudjoe has said that the 384 candidates whose results have been withheld will receive a fair hearing as investigations are ongoing.
She made this known in an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show when she said: “As we are investigating, we need to give the candidates a fair hearing. So some of these candidates have been invited”.
According to her, candidates who are caught in various malpractices at examination halls are given the chance to defend themselves in a statement. However some are not able to explain themselves clearly and as such, these ones are also invited for a hearing.
Addressing the question of whether the Council may have mistakenly include innocent candidates in the cancellation process, Mrs. Teye-Cudjoe assured that it takes some much stringent measures before a cancellation decision is made.
“Our examiners have been trained and they know what to look out for. So when a malpractice is detected, we go further to do what we call scrutiny. We go further for subject officers to scrutinize the paper to ascertain whether the report by the examiners is correct”, she added.
The entire results of 384 candidates have been withheld pending the conclusion of investigations into various cases of examination malpractices detected during and after the conduct of the examination.
