Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman Constituency in the Eastern Region, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, has cautioned the government against any plans to privatize the assets of the Volta River Authority (VRA).
According to him, “the VRA is one of the well-performing state agencies in Ghana, and it has provided numerous employment opportunities to the people of Akosombo and its surrounding areas.
“I will stand by the workers of VRA any day to resist this government’s attempt to sell off this critical national asset,”.
Speaking at the launch of his campaign at South Senchi on Saturday 21st September, 2024, the MP described the proposed sale of VRA as part of a broader “state capture” strategy, adding that it was morally wrong for the ruling NPP to disrespect former President Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, the founder of VRA while seeking to privatize one of his legacies.
Thomas Ampem Nyarko stated that, such a move would be strongly resisted by him and his constituents, particularly the workers of VRA.
He assured them of fighting till the last straw to ensure that, the sale does not happen.
