A disgruntled customer of Menzgold in Kumasi, Kwaku Danso, has stated that most of them in Kumasi started investing in the gold dealership firm (Menzgold) because of President Akufo-Addo’s reaction when he met Nana Appiah Mensah popularly known as NAM 1.
It can be recalled that after NAM 1’s Zylofon Cash finalised a deal to sponsor the Ghana Premier League in a transaction worth $2million and an invitation by Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to grace the Akwasidae at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, NAM 1 visited the presidency, a meeting that was believed to have been arranged by the former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kwesi Nyantakyi. These are the reasons Kwaku Danso claims made him and others in Kumasi invest in the gold dealership firm.
Speaking on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political show, he said, ‘’we trusted Menzgold because of Nana Addo. He said it was a privilege to have met NAM 1 a young man who is investing in the future of the Ghanaian youth. That is what made us invest in Menzgold’’, he added.
Another aggrieved customer, Kwabena Bonsu also said, ‘’a lot of us the Menzgold customers are illiterate; saying you warned us doesn’t hold. How many market women can read?’’
‘’Calling us greedy fools is baseless. We gave you power but you use that power to intimidate us. All I can say now is time will tell’’, he continued.
Both customers, Kwaku Danso and Kwabena Danso, took part in the demonstration that was held in front of the Amakom Branch of Menzgold, where the demonstrators blocked the road, barring access to Adum from Amakom and vice versa. And as part of the demonstration, a planned march to the palace of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II was foiled by the police, causing the demonstrators to retreat and later disperse.
The police however, arrested at least three of the demonstrators believed to be among the organisers.
