Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Dr. Dominic Ayine, has refuted claims that National Security operatives took away the CCTV cameras from the residence of Dr. Ernest Addison following a raid.
On Wednesday, March 19, 2025, a group of about 20 armed men, led by Richard Jakpa, Director of Special Operations at the National Security Secretariat, raided the private residence of the former Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Ernest Addison. During the operation, they were accused of destroying and confiscating his CCTV cameras.
Addressing the matter at a press conference held at the Information Services Department Hall in Accra on Monday, March 24, 2025, Dr. Ayine clarified that the cameras were not taken. Instead, it was the hard drive of the CCTV system that was seized.
He explained that, from an investigative standpoint, the hard drive is the critical component, as it stores footage that can serve as evidence. The cameras themselves, he emphasized, are merely recording devices and have no value without their stored data.
Dr. Ayine further stated that the decision to seize the hard drive was based on the need for evidence regarding activities at Dr. Addison’s residence.
He assured the public that there was no rationale for removing the cameras themselves and urged them to disregard misinformation suggesting otherwise.
