The Chairman of the committee investigating the recent chaos during the vetting of ministerial nominees, Emmanuel Bedzrah, has assured that the probe is not intended to unfairly target any Member of Parliament.
Addressing a press conference on February 3, 2025, alongside committee members, the Ho West MP emphasized that their goal is to ensure a fair and transparent process. He urged all stakeholders including MPs, the media, and attendees present during the vetting to come forward with any relevant information that could help restore peace and foster collaboration in Parliament.
Mr. Bedzrah also announced that the committee would hold public hearings, allowing individuals to openly testify about the events that led to the disruptions on Thursday, January 30.
The committee was established by Speaker Alban Bagbin on January 31, 2025, following violent confrontations in Parliament during the vetting process. The seven-member team, chaired by Mr. Bedzrah, has been tasked with identifying those responsible for the disturbances and recommending appropriate measures.
Speaker Bagbin, in addressing the House, made it clear that no public funds would be used to repair the damage caused by the altercations. Instead, MPs found guilty of misconduct would bear the cost of repairs.
Meanwhile, four MPs are currently serving a two-week suspension as a consequence of the chaos.
