We cannot go to court if EC hasn’t completed its job -NDC’s Baba Jamal

The Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Baba Jamal, has said that it will be unfair to pressurize the NDC to go to court over the 2020 election results when the EC has not completed its work.

According to him, the party is taking a precedence from what happened when the NPP took the Sene West Constituency and the court trashed it out of court because the EC had not completed its work.

Speaking to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show he said: “Those deliberate statements that they make, the question is, has the Electoral Commission finished its work? In the case of Sene West, when we went to court what did the court say? The court directed the EC to complete its work.

The EC is not done with their work. It is not done with the collation. So why then is it directing us to go to court? If we go to court, what are we going to court with? What will be our basis for defending our case?”

He furthered that the issue had gone beyond pink sheets from the polling station to the issue of collation at the constituency level. He believes that the EC did not complete its work before declaring the results as some constituencies such as the Techiman South Constituency was left out.

There has been a lot of calls on the NDC to concede defeat or battle it out in court.

The Flagbearer of the NDC, John Dramani Mahama, has however said that he will only concede if an independent audit is done on the election results.
