Member of the Arise Ghana group, Hassan King says the group can provide its own security for its planned uninterrupted two-day demonstration if the police does not have enough men.
A pressure group, Arise Ghana, and its allies intend to protest against worsening economic conditions in the country from 3pm to 10pm, on Tuesday, June 28.
However, the Police are against the intended duration of the demonstration.
As such, it has proceeded to the court in an attempt to modify the duration of the protest.
In response, the group has filed an affidavit in opposition to the suit.
He described organizers of the demonstration as harmless youth who wish to express their views. To him, members of Arise Ghana are not a security threat.
According to him, the group not long ago organized a similar demonstration in Kumasi, but did so without any security from the Ghana Police Service.
“We are harmless citizens and we can provide our own security if the police cannot give us that. We organized a similar demonstration in Kumasi and we did it all by ourselves in an orderly fashion,” he told Happy98.9FM’s Don Kwabena Prah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show.
Some security experts have also posited that any form of demonstration which goes beyond 6pm has a lot of risks associated to it.
According to him, the safety of persons who organize any demonstration which goes beyond 6pm cannot be assured.
