Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, Alexander Afenyo- Markin has reiterated the NPP’s stance on the ongoing brouhaha in parliament.
According to him, the NPP still holds the majority in parliament and are waiting on the court’s ruling on the matter.
Speaking to journalists after the speaker’s declaration of four vacant seats in parliament, Mr. Afenyo- Markin announced that, they have boycotted parliamentary proceedings indefinitely pending the court’s decision.
“ It is clear that as the majority, we believe in the law and are immediately boycotting parliament until this matter is determined by the Supreme Court. The speaker has no right to interpret the constitution, and it is so clear that what he did was to give an advantage to the NDC and do the bidding of the NDC.”
Mr. Afenyo- Markin accused the speaker of deliberately aligning with the NDC and doing their bidding.
He added that, “We are not going further to litigate. We have a process at the court, we will follow it up. If the court makes a pronouncement we will respect the orders of the court.”
