National Chairman of the opposition National Democratic congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has called on all NDC members to exercise restraints in the aftermath of the electoral violence that erupted during the Ayawaso Wuogon by-elections Thursday January 31.
Speaking at a press conference organized at the party headquarters, he said ‘’Leadership is appealing to them that they should remain calm. We are not cowards and we will respond appropriately.’’
He also drew the attention of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the National Peace Council, the diplomatic community and all peace loving people in the country that the democracy of Ghana was under attack.
‘’ We as a party will want to condemn in the strongest terms the act of atrocities, intimidation and attacks that have been meted out against our supporters, party agents and our National and Regional officers who were deployed to the said polling station.”
However, the party has officially withdrawn from the ongoing by-elections to elect a successor for the late Emmanuel Kwabena Kyeremanteng Agyarko whose wife Lydia Seyram Alhassan is also contesting in the famous by-election.
