We are experiencing erratic power supply, not load shedding- Opoku Prempeh

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister of Energy who is also the Member of Parliament for Manhyia South has reiterated that the intermittent power supply in parts of the country is not due to load shedding by ECG.

According to him, Ghanaians are experiencing erratic power supply due to a number of factors including localized outages due to overload and faulty transformers.

Appearing on the floor of parliament to answer questions pertaining the so called “Dumsor”, the Minister said there are some areas in the country where the number of residents and businesses have increased, East legon for instance which was a purely residential area has suddenly turned into a business district increasing power consumption.

” This has hampered the existing lines there, so the transformers and lines have to be updated.”

He added that, emergency outages, sometimes requested by GRIDCO have also contributed to the situation. Dr. Opoku Prempeh said, the reason ECG said there was no load shedding is because most of the incidents were not planed and so they couldn’t have come out with a pre-programe to say they were shedding load.
