As the stage is set for the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League WAFU Zone B qualifiers, Ghana’s reigning Women Premier League champions, Ampem Darkoa Ladies, have landed in Benin City with a resolute determination to make amends for last year’s missed opportunity.
In an interview on Happy FM’s Happy Sports, Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ Head Coach, Nana Adarkwa, emphasized the team’s commitment to a triumphant performance this year.
“We are preparing adequately towards the tournament. We managed to qualify for the finals last year, and if we had clinched victory then, it would have paved the way to the Women’s CAF Champions League itself. Unfortunately, we lost out on that opportunity, but we are resolute in our quest not to repeat that setback. Our aim is to transcend the finals and secure qualification for the main tournament; our determination is unwavering,” Coach Nana Adarkwa asserted.
Comparing the team’s performance last year, Coach Nana Adarkwa highlighted the improvements they have made. “As compared to last year, we have a very balanced team. The squad has been reinforced, and following our maiden appearance last season, I am confident that we possess the experience necessary to surpass expectations this year”.
The Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ contingent, comprised of 35 individuals, including players, team officials, and a representative from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has made the journey to Nigeria, marking their second attempt at securing a slot in the prestigious main Champions League.
They have been placed in Group B of the CAF Women’s Champions League Zone B qualifiers, alongside AS Garde Nationale from Niger and Amis du Monde of Togo.
The tournament is scheduled to kick off on Friday, August 18, 2023. The victor will earn the coveted CAF Women’s Champions League ticket, the sole allocation available for WAFU Zone B.
