The Programmes Director for the Ghana Centre for Democratic Development, Nana Kwame Abrampa Mensah has said that Ghanaians will be doing a great disservice to themselves if they vote no at the upcoming referendum.

He was speaking in an interview on the “Epa Hoa Daben” show when he said: ‘why don’t we change the trend and involve political parties in the elections of District Chief Executives (DCEs) so that when the voting is over political parties will have a say in their strong holds to bring development ”.

According to him, involving political parties in the elections of DCEs and MMDCEs will help nurture smaller parties and allow them a measure of control in the decision-making process.

He furthered that this action will in no way allow for sabotage by the central government or vice versa because the common fund is available and equally shared to everyone.

He concluded by urging the media to promote the upcoming referendum and the district elections as they do for the general elections.

The Electoral Commission (EC) is set to organize a referendum on the election of metropolitan, municipal and district chief executives (MMDCEs) on December 17th 2019.
