Voter ID card replacement: EC issues new guidelines

NDC follows up on its request for a forensic audit of the 2024 voters register

The Electoral Commission has announced a Voter ID card replacement program, taking place from May 30 to June 14, 2024.

This initiative aims to guarantee that all eligible voters possess valid identification cards ahead of the forthcoming elections, ensuring their participation in the democratic process.

The Electoral Commission has implemented a convenient payment system to facilitate the Voter ID card replacement process, with a nominal fee of GHc 10.00 (ten Ghana cedis) applicable to all applicants.

Applicants can now make payments effortlessly via mobile money using the short code *222*1067#. Upon successful payment, a reference code will be generated, serving as proof of payment and enabling a seamless and expedited processing of the new Voter ID card.

The reference code is essential, as it must be presented to the District Officer when applying for a replacement Voter ID Card. The Commission stresses that this replacement service is solely for individuals who have misplaced their existing Voter ID cards and need a new one issued.

The Commission has clarified that those who still have their existing ID cards and wish to update or modify their information will not be eligible for this service and should follow alternative procedures for updating their information.
