Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clashed on Monday during the commissioning of machinery for the District Road Infrastructure Project in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region.
While details of the altercation remain unclear, reports suggest the confrontation involved members of both political parties.
The District Chief Executive (DCE) and NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Gomoa West, Bismark Nkum, said that the President of the Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Council and the President of the Gomoa Assin Traditional Council were prepared to commission the machinery when the sitting Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Richard Gyan-Mensah, arrived with agitated NDC supporters.
Mr. Nkum alleged that the MP disrupted the event, brandished a gun, chains, and machete.
He said one of the operators, who had been trained, was assaulted by the MP, who struck him with a gun.
According to him, they elected the MP to lead Gomoa West, but he is, pulling a pistol in full view of the police.
He added that they want the police to investigate whether the pistol is licensed and if he had the right to act in such a manner.SOT….
However, Gomoa West MP Richard Gyan-Mensah has refuted the allegations.
He denied arriving at the event armed and stated that if he had committed any act of violence, the police would have intervened.
