In a Wednesday morning friendly match at Geodis Park in Nashville, Tennessee, the Black Stars of Ghana exhibited one of their poorest defensive performances in over a decade. Despite controlling possession, Ghana struggled to maintain a solid defense, leading to a 4-0 victory for USA.
The troubles for Ghana began in the 10th minute when young talent Giovanni Reyna exploited lax defending to score from close range after a blocked shot. Just nine minutes later, Ghana’s Baba Rahman conceded a penalty, allowing USA captain Christian Pulisic to double the lead from the spot.
The USA continued to dominate with goals from Folarin Balogun and Giovanni Reyna, securing a convincing 4-0 win. Although the USA had opportunities to increase their lead in the second half, they eased off the gas.
Ghana’s subpar performance and lack of progress in their gameplay were evident, leading to their loss in the match. The pressure now mounts on Ghana’s coach, Chris Hughton, as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in November.
