Outspoken lawmaker Kennedy Agyapong has claimed Chief of Staff Frema Osei Opare gave him GHC120,000 to deposit in the bank account of Dome-Kwabenya MP Adwoa Safo following her demands on the party.
“I have vowed not to insult like I will blast her today. Adwoa Safo, Chief of Staff called me, I went there and [she] said now this is what she is saying, I swear [on] my mother’s grave, Chief of Staff gave me GHC120,000 to deposit in Adwoa Safo’s bank account.
“I put the money there, I deposited it in her fidelity bank account, you can ask her PA. I deposited the money there. Now, because of how she is behaving we are in opposition,” he told Asaase Radio on Tuesday.
Reacting to the claims by the lawmaker on Happy Morning Show (HMS) on e.TV Ghana and Happy FM, host of the show Samuel Eshun called on the Ghana police to launch an investigation into the claims by Ken Agyapong.
According to him, on what basis or capacity did the chief of staff allegedly give her the money.
“For me [Sammy Eshun] this demands full investigation from the Ghana police service, especially when we have had ordinary citizens who have been prosecuted for such activities called extortion and blackmail, Fati asked a legitimate question, the GHC120,000 which was deposited in the fidelity account of Madam Adwoa Safo’s name from the chief of staff, is it the taxpayers’ money ?,” Samuel Eshun questions.
On the same show, co-host Raymond Nyamador disagrees with Eshun’s call, alluding that “Nobody has to be investigated in this matter, this is just an internal party wrangling going on so lets us all leave the NPP to deal with this matter.”
Last week, Mr. Agyapong accused the Gender Minister of holding the ruling party to ransom.
“Adwoa Safo is holding the whole NPP to ransom. It is the truth I’m saying. I won’t cover it up because I have two children with her so when she is doing something which is wrong, [I won’t say it]. What is going on in NPP is very annoying. We have pampered some people to the extent that they have become tin gods.”
The complaints come on the back of a similar one by another party member in the House Michael Kofi Okyere Baafi who also accused the Dome Kwabenya MP of sabotaging government business.
According to the deputy Trade Minister, his colleague is making demands on the party and President before showing up in the House for business.
“All the problems the government is facing are attributable to Adwoa Safo. Clearly, her intention and posture show that she wants to sabotage NPP. All 136 NPP MPs are always in Parliament except for Adwoa Sarfo. One person cannot hold the party to ransom,” he said on Peace FM.
