Leading member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Victor Smith has implored founder of the party, Flt. Jerry John Rawlings to depart the party and join the National Democratic Party (NDP) if he has lost his love for the party.
The former President of Ghana, Rawlings has been attacking the party on all fronts, with his latest jab coming last Saturday when he claimed that the party has a lot of great, good people with solid integrity but a lot of the party’s grip is in the hands of those who lack integrity.
A claim which several members of the party have frowned up, with some believing that his time with the NDC is spent hence he should steer away from matters concerning the party.
According to Mr Smith, Rawlings’ love for the NDC has become cold following his attacks, and thus called on him to exit the party if he so desires and join that of his wife, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings’ National Democratic Party [NDP].
“If your love for the party has declined just leave the party,” he said.
Mr. Smith, who was one-time special assistant to Mr. Rawlings further called on the hierarchy of the party to deal with the former military ruler if they are serious about reclaiming the seat in 2020.
“If the party leadership does not do anything about it, then we will have a very tall order…if they do not do anything about it to have the problem resolved now, it will be very difficult for us to win [the 2020 election].”
“When I say we should deal with him, I mean they [NDC leadership] have to stop him [Rawlings] from doing what he is doing….his remarks have been creating problems within our party. If the party leadership does not rectify it now for the progress of the party, then there is a possibility that we may not win 2020 election,” he noted, urging the NDC leadership to be “bold” and take a decision against the party founder.”
