Vacant seats: Justice Ernest Gaewu is an NPP member and shouldn't have been on the Supreme Court panel

Private Legal Practitioner, Martin Kpebu has said that Justice Ernest Gaewu shouldn’t have been part of the panel, sitting on the vacant seats case at the Supreme Court.

According to Martin Kpebu, one does not need to become a lawyer to be able to see that this is a political case and as such, Justice Ernest Gaewu who is a member of the New Patriotic Party shouldn’t have been on the panel at the Supreme Court.

Martin Kpebu’s comment comes after Supreme Court dismissed an application by the Speaker of Parliament to have Justice Gaewu recuse himself from the panel sitting on the case on whether or not the apex court could set aside the Speaker of Parliament’s declaration of four seats vacant.

“You don’t need to be a lawyer to see this is a matter between the NPP and NDC. To the extent that, Justice Ernest Gaewu is an NPP member should not be on the panel.”

“It’s simple, there are over 10 Justices of the Supreme Court, so why should we put such a person there? The optics are bad, where are we headed? Martin Kpebu.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has dismissed an application by Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, who sought to overturn the Court’s ruling that suspended his declaration of four parliamentary seats vacant.
