Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama has reacted to the ruling by the Supreme Court on the four vacant seats in parliament.
Mr. Mahama mentioned that, the ongoing controversy surrounding the four vacant seats in parliament and the supreme court interference could be solved outside court.
Speaking at the Mahama Fellowship with the Clergy in Kumasi, he indicated that, this issue could have been solved outside the Supreme Court if he were the president.
“If I were the President, I would call for the case to be vacated from the Supreme Court and summon the leaders of the two caucuses and council of state together with the speaker and some religious bodies so there can be a solution to the matter”.
According to Mr. Mahama, the declaration of the vacant seats and the controversy surrounding the issue should not be an issue for the judiciary to interfer as the issue is not a legal one.
“I think that, it is something we can solve politically, the solution is not legal because the Supreme Court can give a ruling and parliament can decide not to obey because they are not under the judiciary”.
He added that, “this requires a political solution”.
He mentioned that, President Akufo- Addo should have intervened and summoned both leadership to solve the issue amicably.
