UTAG suspends strike action following members vote

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) has suspended its strike after members voted in favor of calling it off.

The association in a statement stressed that, suspending the strike was not an easy decision, though the association recognized the importance of the cause they are advocating for.

“This decision though difficult, comes in response to the widespread and democratic vote by UTAG members nationwide”.

UTAG noted that, the ongoing campaign against galamsey has been driven by its devastating impact on Ghana’s environment, water bodies, and countless communities whose livelihoods depend on these resources.

The statement added that, “Our efforts will continue, resolute and focused, on opposing those who exploit our natural resources with disregard for the law or the well-being of our communities”.

The association also indicated that, they will continue to work collectively to protect and uphold the principles of environmental stewardship, justice, and sustainable development.

“UTAG remains unwavering in its commitment to efforts to safeguard our natural resources from the harmful effects of illegal mining”.
