A fire explosion near Stadium Junction in Bogobiri-Obuasi on Friday, December 13, 2024, has claimed three lives and left nine others injured.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in a release has reported that the blaze started at 11:10 a.m., with firefighters from Anglogold Ashanti and Fomena arriving promptly at 11:15 a.m.
They stated the firefighting teams managed to bring the fire under control by 1:08 p.m. and fully extinguished it by 2:23 p.m. Despite their efforts, the fire destroyed 12 salon cars, a mini-bus, four metal containers, and two concrete structures. However, their timely intervention salvaged seven metal containers and three nearby storey buildings, along with their contents.
The injured victims were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical treatment. The GNFS commended the tactical response of the firefighting teams, which helped prevent further loss of life and property.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing, and the public is advised to remain cautious in the affected area.
