‘Unpaid’ referees are eager to use VAR – GFA’s Referees Manager Alex Kotey

VAR implementation in Ghana will start next year- Alex Kotey

Referees Manager of the Ghana Football Association, Alex Kotey has said that referees in the country are eager to use VAR to enhance their performance in the Ghana Premier League.

According to Alex Kotey, the claims that referees are owed salaries for months and are not happy with the GFA’s investment in VAR technology are not true as the officials are in full support for the introduction of the technology.

He told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports on Friday, November 1, 2024, that the referees despite being owed salaries are not against the introduction of a support system which is the VAR.

“Brenya it is not true that the referees are not happy with the introduction of VAR at this time. It is true that we are owing the referees but we will pay them. The referees themselves are eager to use the VAR and are happy about the plans to introduce it.”

“The fact that your company is owing you doesn’t mean you should say no to an opportunity to build your capacity,” Alex Kotey told Ohene-Bampoe Brenya on Happy Sports.
