The Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has announced UNESCO’s support for expanding the I-Box initiative to include technology-enabled open systems at the basic school level.
This extension he said aims to ensure continuity of both home-based and school-based learning, especially during disruptions such as pandemics.
Answering questions on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, March 19, Mr. Iddrisu noted that the Ministry is working closely with other Ministries, Departments, and development partners to introduce more initiatives that will further narrow the digital divide and enhance digital learning in rural schools.
He emphasized that the I-Box project incorporates a wireless smart screen and offline functionality, allowing students in areas with limited internet access to still benefit from digital learning.
This move he according to the minister aims to provide quality education to all students, regardless of their location.
“These interventions reflect the government’s commitment to ensuring that all students, regardless of location, have access to quality learning resources,” he noted.
