Security expert, Paul Boateng, has identified the root cause of crimes in Kasoa as the response-based approach to crime in the country.
According to him, the security agencies are reactive to crimes rather than being proactive and that allows crimes to continue for a very long time.
Narrowing to the situation to the state of insecurity in Kasoa, the security expert explained to Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show: “The issue of insecurity in Kasoa has been there for a very long time. During Rawlings’ time, the criminals were based in Ashaiman but after several raids, they relocated to Kasoa. Also, the refugees from war-torn Liberia were based in Kasoa when they arrived and it is highly possible that some unscrupulous people joined the refugees in coming to Ghana” .
The security agencies are aware of the crimes in Kasoa. So, it is now time for intelligence-led policing to take over”.
Paul Boateng was, however, confident that crime in the country can be halted only if political actors display the political will to do so.
“Halting crime in Ghana is about political will. You cannot blame the security agencies because they are somehow limited because of actions and inactions of politicians in the country”, he added.
The security expert further charged government to provide the needed logistics to the security services to beef up their work. He added that the security services, on the other hand, must maintain the right attitude; avoiding the temptation to be swayed by money.
Residents of Kasoa have been living in constant fear as cases of armed robbery in the area have been on the rise. Happy FM and e.TV Ghana through the Happy Morning Show, visited residents at Kasoa to ascertain the situation.
Some residents expressed their fears and called on the appropriate authorities to come to their aid.
