Underfunded security services birthed corrupt SARS – Nigerian Politician

Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has asserted that the corrupt and underhanded dealings of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) are as a result of the marginal operational resources they received from the government.

According to him, all other security agencies in Nigeria have turned to corruption just because they do not receive adequate resources but SARS took their corruption and extortion to a whole new level.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Happy 98.9 FM’s Afrifa-Mensa on the Epa Hoa Daben political talk show, he said, “This problem with SARS all stems from corruption. They turned to corruption because the security agencies in Nigeria are underfunded”.

If the Nigerian government had funded the police force adequately, I don’t think they would resort to robbing citizens they have been mandated to protect in broad daylight, he reiterated.

The former big wig of Nigeria’s ruling government noted that corruption in security agencies is widespread on the African continent and cited Nigeria’s good old neighbour Ghana as an example.

He charged countries on the African Continent to take active steps in reforming their security agencies. “We must reform our security agencies and take our police seriously”, he said.

The advocate for the end SARS movement noted that if critical steps are not taken to reform the police in the various African countries, “we will suffer the same fate as the USA”.

On his authority, the present generation of African youth is setting the right path for a great continent. “They show that nobody or nothing is greater than their security. This generation will change Africa”.

Nigerians all over the world have banded together to support the end SARS protest taking place in their country.

Regardless of the protest having led to the disbandment of the Special Anti Robbery Squad which was accused of extortion and robbery, the youth of Nigeria have further asked for the fair representation in the government.
