Uganda has deployed special forces to the capital, Juba in a bid to protect President Salva Kiit’s government .
The deployment comes as tensions between President Salva Kiir and his deputy, Riek Machar, threaten to plunge the country back into civil war.
Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, acting as a guarantor of the peace process, has reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the delicate unity government formed under the 2018 peace agreement.
Museveni and Kiir share a longstanding alliance, with Uganda previously intervening in South Sudan’s conflicts to bolster Kiir’s leadership.
