Two police officers suspended over alleged extortion

The Ghana Police Service on August 9, 2024, took prompt action against two officers accused of extorting money from a motor pillion rider in Accra.

The alleged incident, involving Lance Corporal Philimon Agbevem and Lance Corporal Peter Gbadagbo, took place on July 22, 2024. An investigation was launched, and the officers are currently cooperating with authorities.

The police have stated that the two officers will undergo due process, with appropriate actions taken if they are found guilty.

This measure is intended to uphold accountability and transparency within the force and to maintain public trust.

Additionally, the police are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

In a statement, the police said, “We take allegations of extortion very seriously and will do everything in our power to ensure that justice is served.” The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
