Ghanaian football will be well represented at the maiden edition of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup, as Edmund Baidoo and Samuel Obeng are set to feature for their respective clubs in the global competition.

Baidoo, a 19-year-old midfielder, plays for Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. He joined the club in 2024 from Norwegian side Sogndal and has quickly established himself as a regular since making his debut a few months ago.

Obeng, 27, currently plies his trade with Wydad Athletic Club in Morocco. The former Black Meteors forward had spells with Spanish clubs Girona and Oviedo, as well as Casa Pia in Portugal, before moving to Wydad in January. He was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Baidoo and Obeng are among 147 African players set to participate in the tournament, which will bring together the best 32 clubs from around the world. Other African nations expected to have player representation include Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, and Tunisia.

The inaugural FIFA Club World Cup promises to be a historic event, giving players like Baidoo and Obeng the opportunity to showcase their talent on the global stage.
