Chiefs, elders, and cocoa farmers in Twifo Agyempoma in the Central Region have petitioned COCOBOD over the sale of 1,446.18 hectares of cocoa farmlands across five communities to a company called ARUKAH GLOBAL LTD.
Addressing the media, the chiefs of Twifo Agyempoma revealed that the affected communities include Agyempoma, Opong Valley, Abosombuhu, Akaase, Nkubem, and Sodademu. They further explained that the farmlands span three districts: Twifo Praso, Dunkwa, and Huni Valley.
According to them, the lands have been leased to Arukah Global Ltd for rubber cultivation, affecting their only source of livelihood. They expressed hope that COCOBOD would intervene to protect their farms and livelihoods.
Responding to the situation, Prof. Michael Kwateng, Head of the Cocoa Protection Desk at COCOBOD, confirmed to Happyghana.com that the organization has received the farmers’ petition.
He assured the farmers that COCOBOD would engage them and work towards a resolution, urging them to remain calm as efforts are made to address their concerns.
