Transport Minister hints at turning Ho Airport into a training school

Transport Minister outlines vision for strengthening Metro Mass Transit amid operational challenges

Minister of Transport, Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, has announced plans to transform the Ho Airport into a training school due to low commercial patronage.

This revelation came during his appearance before Parliament’s Assurances Committee on Thursday, October, 10, 2024.

The Minister explained that despite initial efforts by a private airline to operate commercial flights, low patronage led the airline to halt its activities. With the government not operating its own airline, the ministry has sought private sector partnerships to ensure the airport is utilized effectively.

He revealed that several private proposals are under assessment, with the aim of establishing a well-equipped training facility that could serve not only Ghana but the entire West African region. The Minister emphasized the need to prevent the airport’s infrastructure from going to waste, noting the valuable potential of the facility’s runway and structures.

The proposal, still under final review, could see Ho Airport become a regional hub for aviation training, ensuring that the airport serves a productive purpose even without regular commercial flights.
