Djiku’s previous club, Strasbourg, had hoped to reach a new agreement with the centre-back as his contract expired in June. However, Djiku opted to move on and Fenerbahce presented a more enticing offer. After successfully passing his medical on Monday, Djiku’s arrival was officially confirmed by the club.

While Fenerbahce secured his signature, other clubs including Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga and French Ligue 1 side Lille also showed interest in acquiring Djiku’s services. However, the project presented by Fenerbahce impressed Djiku, leading to his decision to join the Turkish club.
Djiku joined Strasbourg in 2019 and quickly became an integral part of the team. He served as their captain last season, helping them avoid relegation. Although he came close to leaving the club last summer with an agreed move to Hoffenheim, the transfer fell through at the last minute due to a dispute over agent commission.
Born in France, Djiku chose to represent Ghana internationally and made his debut for the national team in 2020. He was part of Ghana’s World Cup squad and has made several appearances for the national team.
