Tokyo launches dating app to resolve low fertility rate in Japan

Japan’s capital, Tokyo as part of measures to resolve issues of low fertility rate has launched a dating app to encourage courtship and procreation in the East Asian country.

Japan’s fertility rate has been a matter of concern for many years, and now hits another record low. The population’s fall began after the 1973 global oil crisis which pushed economies into recession, and has never recovered.

The fertility rate explained as the number of births a woman has in her lifetime dropped from 1.26 to 1.20 according to new data presented by the Ministry of Health, Labour, Welfare on Friday.

Reports from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on Friday, the 123.9 million populated nation recorded 727,277 births last year.

Experts indicate that for a population to experience stable growth, the nation’s fertility rate must float around 2.1 and higher.

But in Japan, the fertility rate has been well below that stable marker of 2.1 for a little over forty years
The Japan government hopes that this dating app (Tokyo Futari Story) shall encourage young people to get married and start families.
