On this day 11 March 1989 (Exactly 30 years ago) Ghana’s Nana Yaw Konadu defeated Cesar Polanco of Dominican Republic for World Boxing Council International Super Flyweight title at the Accra Sports Stadium.
On this day 11 March 2017 (Exactly 2 years ago) Future world champion, Richard Commey became the new WBC international lightweight champion after defeating Hedi Slimani of Tunisia at the Bukom Boxing Arena.
Richard Commey won by a unanimous decision.

On this day 11 March 2008 (Exactly 11 years ago) Armed Robbers attacked WA All Stars team while on their way to Accra for a Premier League game against Accra Hearts of Oak
“We would be seeking to have the game postponed to enable us recover from this experience. We will be available for the game anytime after this week,” Maxwell Konadu, then Public Relations of the club.
The team bus of the Blues came under attack on the Techiman highway in the Brong Ahafo region in the early hours of that Tuesday around 2:00am as the robbers made away with monies and cellular phones belonging to some players and staff on board the bus.
On approaching Techiman, the bus slowed down after seeing a road block mounted. After realising that it wasn’t a Police blockade and upon seeing the robbers come out of the dark, the bus driver attempted reversing quickly but the armed robbers moved in and smashed the windscreen with their machetes.
The robbers afterwards ordered everyone on the streets and bolted with their bounty as another car approached the scene. Head coach, Emmanuel Quarshie and two players sustained head injuries in the process from the butt of the guns used by the robbers.
The team drove to Kumasi where they were given medical attention at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital before lodging a complaint at the Police Station.
On this day 11 March 2006 (Exactly 13 years ago) Ignisious Gaisah won the Men’s Long Jump gold at the 11th IAAF World Indoor Championships in Moscow.
Gaisah impressed with a jump of 8.30, beating Panama’s Irving Saladino, who set an area record of 8.29 for silver and Andrew Howe(Italy), who took the bronze.
