On this day 30 May 2004 (Exactly 15 years ago) USM Alger sent Kumasi Asante Kotoko tumbling out of the cc on penalties at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi .
Kotoko scored two goals during regulation time to bring the scores to two-all on aggregate with USM winning the first leg encounter 2-0 in Algiers two weeks earlier .
Some of the teeming Kotoko supporters who filled the stadium to capacity were rooted to their seats at the end of the penalty shoot out finding it difficult to fathom why their idol club always let them down in crucial matches.
Those who broke the hearts of Kotoko during the penalty shoot out were substitute Michael Ofosu-Appiah and petit Stephen Oduro who had endeared himself to the supporters in the game. Ofosu-Appiah shot feebly into the hands of USMA goalkeeper Abdouni Merouane and was followed by Oduro who also shot into the hands of the goalkeeper from the same posture taken by Ofosu-Appiah with only Charles Taylor scoring from his kick.
USM Alger on the other hand scored all their four kicks taken by Zeghdoud Mounir, Ouichaoi Moncef, Handoud Mohamed and Diallo Mamadou.

On this day 30 May 2007 (Exactly 12 years ago) Portsmouth Football Club announced their third acquisition of the summer with a new club record signing in the form of Ghanaian international Sulley Muntari for a club record fee, believed to be around £7.1 million, signing a five-year contract.
Pompey manager Harry Redknapp said of Muntari: “I first saw him at the World Cup against Brazil and he was the best player on the pitch. I’ve watched him three times since and he has been very impressive.
“We tried to get him in the last two transfer windows but Udinese didn’t want to sell so we are delighted he’s finally coming to Fratton Park. He’s got a great left-foot and has great energy with the ability to run all day and, he’s a good passer of the ball too. Ghana have one of the best midfields in the world and he’s a regular fixture in their side. He’s a player with a big future.”
Muntari said: “Portsmouth is a fantastic club with class players such as Pedro Mendes, Sol Campbell, David James and Kanu and a great manager in Harry Redknapp, who is also a great man. I have been a Pompey supporter ever since they first wanted me a year ago and I’ve watched as many games as I could. The fans are great and they really love their football. I’m really looking forward to playing in front of them and helping the club make a push for European competition.”
Pompey’s previous record transfer fee was the £4.4m paid to Auxerre for Benjani Mwaruwari in January 2006.

On this day 30 May 2015 (Exactly 4 years ago) Arsenal became the most successful club in FA Cup history as they outclassed Aston Villa at Wembley to earn Arsene Wenger a record-equalling sixth triumph.
The Gunners retained the trophy they won against Hull City a year ago to put Wenger’s total of wins alongside George Ramsay – who previously stood alone with the record for his victories with Villa between 1887 and 1920.
Arsenal’s 12th final victory was never in doubt as they dominated with a magnificent display, the only surprise being that it took until five minutes before half-time for their control to be rewarded with Theo Walcott’s goal.
Alexis Sanchez confirmed that superiority with one of the great FA Cup final goals shortly after the restart – a swerving, dipping 25-yard thunderbolt that flew high past startled Villa keeper Shay Given.
Villa were a shadow of the side that performed so impressively to beat Liverpool at Wembley in the semi-final, their flaws exposed ruthlessly as Per Mertesacker took advantage of an embarrassing lack of marking to head the third.
Substitute Olivier Giroud’s fourth in the final moments only completed what was a harrowing day for Tim Sherwood’s side, who had travelled to Wembley high on optimism and expectation after an impressive run to the final.
