Maritz Volz, then Fulham right-back, scored the 15,000th goal of the Premier League when he scored the opening goal against Chelsea in a 2-2 draw at the Stamford Bridge.
A long throw from the left from Franck Queudrue was missed by every Chelsea player and Volz had time to take a touch and rifle it in from eight yards, via the right leg of Paolo Ferreira.
In an instant Volz wrote his name into the Premiership history books and he was given £15,000 from league sponsors Barclays to donate to a charity of his choice.

FC Dynamo Kyiv forward Oleg Blokhin claimed the Ballon d’Or award for best European football player ahead of former winners, Bayern Munich defender Franz Beckenbauer and Ajax forward Johan Cruyff.

Bayern Munich forward Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was named the winner of the Ballon d’Or for best European football player; beats German international team mate Bernd Schuster of FC Barcelona and Saint-Étienne midfielder Michel Platini.
