Former Black Stars player, Willie Clutse, has said that the timing for striping off the captain armband from Asamoah Gyan was wrong.
All-time leading striker of the Ghana Black Stars, Asamoah Gyan yesterday announced his retirement from the national senior side.
It has emerged that the 33-year-old decided to call time on his national team career after it was alleged that Coach Kwesi Appiah was set to name Andre Ayew as the new captain of Black Stars ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
“This issue is very complicated. If what I’m hearing is true that they have stripped off the captain armband from Asamoah Gyan and given to Dede Ayew, if that’s true then the timing was wrong. How many days left for Ghana to compete in AFCON and you have taken this decision and you think is good”? Willie Clutse quizzed on Happy FM’s Wamputu Sports.
Coach Kwasi Appiah is yet to make the decision officially to Ghanaians as to who will captain the Black Stars at the AFCON after Asamoah Gyan’s retirement from the National Team
