Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West constituency, Gizella Tettey-Agbotui has urged Members of the 9th Parliament of Ghana to desist from engaging in acts of violence or any activities that will disrupt the smooth running of sittings in parliament.
The member of the probing committee expressed her disappointment in MPs who condoned acts of violence, while speaking to first term MP, Emmanuel Kofi Ntekuni during interrogation by the committee.
She explained that legislators are regarded in high esteem and must be guided in their actions. “Nobody expected this. I think this is a lesson to all of us, those who were in the room, those who watched it immediately online or afterwards that there should be a bit of tolerance amongst us.”
All first term Members of Parliament were encouraged by her to maintain a proper image of the lawmaking institution and not condone such acts as a norm in parliament.
“As a first timer don’t let this be the norm and this goes out to all first timers also and even second timers like myself and this should not be the norm and this is not what the public should see us do. This goes out to the majority and the minority, thank you.”
