IGP Dampare calls on Ghanaians to pair prayer with action for peaceful elections

Youth Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Opare Addo, aka Pablo, claims there is an unseen hand controlling the Inspector General of Police (IGP).

His comments come after the Arise Ghana group, an association made up of the opposition parties, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and other concerned Ghanaians had their 48 hour demonstration cancelled by the police.

The 48 hour demonstration with had previously been agreed to by the police and conveners of the Arise Ghana group was later cancelled by a court ruling, after the police supposedly rescinded their decision.

The pressure group and its allies intend to protest against worsening economic conditions in the country from 3pm to 10pm, on Tuesday, June 28.

However, the Police are against the intended duration of the demonstration.

As such, it has proceeded to the court in an attempt to modify the duration of the protest.

In response, the group has filed an affidavit in opposition to the suit.

“What we are saying is simple. We want to organize a demonstration from the 28th to 29th June 2022, a two-day demonstration which will take place in the day and night, but that has surprisingly been changed. It looks like there is a hand manipulating the IGP because of that was not the case then they wouldn’t have come out to give us a different time when we had already reached an agreement,” he submitted in an interview with Don Kwabena Prah on Happy98.9FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ political talk show.

The Arise Ghana group regards this eleventh hour U-turn by the police as suspicious and surprising.
