President John Dramani Mahama has shed light on the decision of his government to reduce the number of sector ministers from thirty to twenty-three as the number of sectors needed to fulfil his promise of resetting Ghana.

The President during his Thank You Tour in the Volta Region on Friday, January 24, 2024 indicated that this reduction is evidence of his government’s dedication to restructuring Ghana and taking the necessary steps to steer the nation back on course.

“Since assuming office we have wasted no time in taking bold steps to steer our dear nation back on course after my swearing in on January 7th 2025 we immediately begun implementing our agenda to reset Ghana.” the President said.

President Mahama further explained that the reduction of ministerial sectors has hindered the formerly applied nature of bureaucracy in decisions related to the nation, which aims to make nation building more inclusive and balanced. “…by doing this we have not only reduced bureaucracy but also ensured that every ministry is aligned with the pressing needs of our people. This restructuring has allowed us to redirect resources to critical areas such as Education, Healthcare, Infrastructure and Local governance.”

President John Dramani Mahama highlighted the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs as ministeries which will receive much focus and collaborate with Ghanaian chiefs to ensure efficiency in the local governance sector of Ghana. “For exampled the newly restructured Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs is designed to foster stronger collaboration between that ministry and our traditional leaders. We believe that our traditional leaders must play a greater role in the development of this country. We also believe that development is most effective when it is community-led and who are better to guide us in this effort that our chiefs who have been custodians of our culture and our progress.” he intimated.
