Members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) grassroot staged a protest at the entrance of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) office, expressing concern over the appointment of Anthony Sarpong as Acting Commissioner-General of the GRA.
The aggrieved youth, in an engagement with happyghana.com, argued that Mr. Sarpong, being a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), cannot appreciate their efforts to secure victory for the NDC and, as such, would not reward them adequately.
Youth Organizer and grassroot member Yakubu Usman told happyghana.com that there are equally competent individuals in the NDC who are capable of playing the role. “Sarpong was playing an active role in government leadership under the previous government his time has ended so he has to go. We cannot work with a member of the NPP. He has no idea how the youth have suffered. An NDC member will understand and give us the help we deserve because we, the youth, have worked for it.”
Describing the appointment by President Mahama as a “discord,” he called on the President to reconsider his decision. “We are pleading with President Mahama to reconsider his decision. This is what led to our defeat in 2016. We cannot sit and observe this discord, so we are pleading with the President to hear the voice of the youth.”
